Physics SGS style...

After a hard year's AS level physics, the students put their learning into practice.....

And this year's Year 12 Physics Challenge was to build a trebuchet or similar and see which team could launch a projectile the greatest distance. I'm not sure that the team were going for distance so much as artistic merit, but I hereby give you (cue drum roll)

The Onagore... (which, I am reliably informed is a type of trebuchet)

Projectiles ready for launch...

I don't recall Pictic Barbie but who knows?

The noble sacrifice by one team member of their collection of Barbie/Sindy dolls (it was for a good cause)

And the full-on view...

I do think that it's crucial for students to learn practical applications for their subjects don't you?....
